It’s such a happy color and makes any day taste like summer! It’s the Sweet Tart of the fruit world. This air fryer pineapple recipe makes the best dessert in just minutes!

What does Grilled Pineapple taste like?

Grilling the pineapple does take a little of the tartness out of the fruit. The
natural sweetness in the pineapple caramelizes and comes out even more. I
think most of us have had pineapple with ham – so air frying it is very similar. It’s
just a great sweet and fresh dessert that’s ready in minutes!

Is Pineapple good for you?

Yes! It has 130% of the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin C! How fantastic during cold season! It’s also heavy in manganese which aids growth and a healthy metabolism. Pineapple is also full of antioxidants which may reduce the risk of chronic diseases. It also has these awesome digestive enzymes that help break down proteins in your digestive system! Lastly pineapple has anti-inflammatory properties which can help your body heal.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Grilled Pineapple

This is such a simple dessert – you only need a few ingredients – yet it’s so delicious. Here’s where to start:

  • Fresh Pineapple – be sure to use fresh pineapple – it’s essential and so delicious!
  • Brown Sugar – you can use light or dark brown sugar – if you don’t have brown sugar, you could use honey
  • Cinnamon – spend more on spices you use a lot – they’re fresher and more potent! I like Saigon Cinnamon the best.
  • Butter – you can use salted or unsalted butter for this
  • Ice Cream or Whipped Topping – you can of course have pineapple on it’s own – but who doesn’t want a little ice cream too?!

Does Grilled Pineapple need to be ripe?

No – pineapple doesn’t need to be ripe – it’s great if it is though! If you have a pineapple that maybe is a little too tart – the butter and sugar make it totally sweet!! The pineapple I used was actually a little overripe – and it was still delicious!

Can you use canned pineapple for Grilled Pineapple?

I wouldn’t. The canned pineapple is a little softer already and it will get a little too mushy. That said – you could slice your fresh fruit into pineapple slices or chunks instead of spears.

How to make Grilled Pineapple in the air fryer?

This is definitely a simple dessert that you can prep in about 10 minutes and then cooks for 10 minutes. Here’s what to do:

  • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • Place 1/2 stick butter in a glass and top with a plate or press & seal wrap – microwave for 45 seconds or until butter is melted.
  • Lay out the pineapple spears in a rimmed tray and pour the melted butter over them.
  • Remove the spears from the butter and roll them in cinnamon sugar mixture. (Save the butter from the tray and any cinnamon sugar not on the pineapples)
  • Place the spears into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may have to do this in batches.
  • Air fry at 400°F for 10 minutes.
  • Mix remaining butter with remaining cinnamon sugar. Halfway through air frying, brush with remaining sugar butter.
  • Pineapple spears are done when the sugar is bubbling!
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream and pour any sugar butter drippings from the pan on top of your ice cream!
  • Store any leftovers in an air tight container and keep in the fridge.

Can you freeze Grilled Pineapple?

I wouldn’t. Freezing and thawing messes with the texture – especially after cooking.

Can you reheat Air Fryer Grilled Pineapple?

Yes!!! I made a whole pineapple and had dessert every night for a week. You can reheat in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes or in the microwave for 45 seconds.

One pint of ice cream made the perfect pairing. Plus – be sure to save the sauce that forms in the air fryer pan from the butter and brown sugar – it’s great poured over top!
