Ingredients in Healthy English Muffins
These English Muffins only require 2 ingredients! All you need is some self rising flour and Greek yogurt. But there are lots of flavors you can make, and add-on ingredients to make them asset more like store bought.
Be sure to see below for 3 yummy flavors perfect for breakfast sandwiches, sweet treats, and English muffin pizzas.
English Muffin Ingredients:
- Self Rising Flour – don’t use regular or almond flour, you need the self rising stuff otherwise they will be too dense.
- Greek Yogurt – I like 0% Greek Yogurt, it’s low calorie, high protein and metabolism boosting!
- Corn Meal – this is optional, but will give the English Muffins more of a store bought consistency.
- Olive Oil Spray – a non-stick skillet can be used in it’s place if you prefer.
Add-Ins and Flavors:
Italian Flavoring (great for English Muffin Pizzas):
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Salt
- 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
Cinnamon Raisin:
- 1 teaspoon Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1/8 cup Raisins
Garlic Sage (great for Breakfast Sandwiches):
- 1/4 teaspoon Dried Sage
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Salt
How to Make Low Calorie English Muffins
Making English muffins at home is easy and fun! They take just 15 minutes to make (including prep time) and freeze beautifully.
I recommend allowing them to cool completely before moving to a freezer bag or container then freezing. They will last for 1 month in the freezer and 1 week in the fridge.
How to Make Healthy English Muffins:
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat, and lay a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper out (or a clean cookie sheet).
- To a large mixing bowl or countertop mixer combine the self rising flour and greek yogurt.
- Mix until combined and smooth (about 2 minutes), and then divide into 8 equal portions.
- Mold each portion into a ball, then flatten into a thin English muffin shape.
- Place each on the parchment paper as you work, until you have formed all 8 English muffins.
- Sprinkle the tops with corn meal (if using) and spray the skillet lightly with olive oil.
- Add 4 English muffins to the hot skillet and cook for 6-8 minutes, flip and cook for an additional 6-8 minutes.
- Move the cooked English muffins to a cooling rack and add the remaining 4 English muffins to the hot skillet.
