How to Make a Watermelon Christmas Tree

  1. Cut a whole watermelon into quarters (or alternatively you can buy watermelon wedges this size).
  2. Slice the wedge into triangles around 1cm (0.4 inch) thick
  3. Half the triangles, lengthways, to make taller, thinner triangles. (The smaller sections may not need to be halved)
  4. Cut out the tree base by cutting the rind into thirds and removing the outer two thirds.

Decorating the Trees

This is the part the kids love to help with. Fill a small ziplock bag with yogurt (or melted chocolate) and allow the kids to decorate their own watermelon Christmas trees. If you wish, you could add small pieces of dried fruit, chocolate chips etc as the baubles. Freeze until the yogurt is hard.

Watermelon Christmas Trees

A healthy and fun Christmas themed snack

Ingredients

  • ¼ Seedless watermelon
  • 125g (½ cup) natural greek yoghurt

Instructions

  • Cut watermelon to make small triangle wedges about 1cm /0.4 inch thick. Cut each triangle in half, lengthways, to produce thinner triangles with a base size of around 6cm (2½ inches)

  • Using a sharp knife cut out the tree base by cutting the rind into thirds and removing the outer two thirds.

  • Line a baking tray with baking paper and place yoghurt into a piping bag or zip lock bag (cut the corner of the zip lock bag to pipe.)

  • Pipe the yoghurt onto the watermelon wedges to achieve desired effect.

  • Place in freezer until yoghurt is firm.

    Thanks for this! We had a midwinter Christmas party last night and everyone loved these!

    I skipped the yoghurt and freezing, but will try the recipe fully when it's actually Christmas (and summer!)
