Watermelon Christmas Trees, a healthy and fun Christmas themed treat.
Why We Love This Christmas Snack
- Healthy & Fun - The Holiday season is a time where we are surrounded by candy and other party food. This is a healthy party food idea, that is also fun and appealing to children.
- Refreshing - Living in Australia, this is the perfect refreshing, Christmas themed, snack for a summer day.
- Easy to Make - It takes very little work to transform a wedge of watermelon into a fun Christmas tree!
- Easy To Eat - The Christmas tree stump doubles up as the perfect handle. Great for younger kids to hold.
- Child Involvement - There are so many benefits to involving kids in the kitchen, this is a fun snack to make with your kids. They will love decorating with their very own piping bag.
How to Make a Watermelon Christmas Tree
- Cut a whole watermelon into quarters (or alternatively you can buy watermelon wedges this size).
- Slice the wedge into triangles around 1cm (0.4 inch) thick
- Half the triangles, lengthways, to make taller, thinner triangles. (The smaller sections may not need to be halved)
- Cut out the tree base by cutting the rind into thirds and removing the outer two thirds.
Decorating the Trees
This is the part the kids love to help with. Fill a small ziplock bag with yogurt (or melted chocolate) and allow the kids to decorate their own watermelon Christmas trees. If you wish, you could add small pieces of dried fruit, chocolate chips etc as the baubles. Freeze until the yogurt is hard.
